Description
The meteorological sensors of the dropsonde are identical in contribution with the SRS 400 sonde (standard PTU unit) and the dewpoint mirror "Snow White" by Meteolabor is used.
Time intervals:
PTU-Data such as air_temperature, dew_point_temperature and air_pressure (if measured by hypsometer, see below), are measured with respect to variable time stamps (sonde nr.4 to nr.33 between 0.8 s and 2.8 s; for sonde nr.41 to nr.60 between 0.3 s and 1.1 s for air_temperature and
between 0.6 s and 2.1 s for drew_point_temperature) and linearly interpolated onto constant
1 s time intervals (accord. to GPS time interval of 1 s).
Technical specifications (accord. to manufacturer):
air_pressure:
-sondes nr.4 to nr.33:
hypsometer, range: 1100 to 5 hPa, accuracy: 0.2 %, resolution: 0.02 %
-sondes nr.41 to nr.60:
pressure is calculated (derived from GPS altitude information)
-for some sondes hypsometer-derived values were not available at times due to instrument failure. Then, pressure data were derived from GPS altitude information beginning from the onset of the malfunction. If so, this is given in the "description" attribute of variable "air_pressure" in the data file.
air_temperature:
thermocouple: range: +50 deg C to -100 deg C, accuracy: lt 0.1 deg C, resolution: 0.01 deg C
dew_point_temperature: range: +50 deg C to -100 deg C, accuracy: 0.3 deg C, resolution: 0.01 deg C.
PLEASE SEE "HORIZONTAL ACCURACY REPORT"
Description
GPS Position accuracy (according to the manufacturer):
sondes nr.4 to nr.33:
Position accuracy: 15 m RMS
Velocity accuracy: 0.2 m/s RMS steady state
sondes nr.41 to nr.60:
Position: lt 15 m, 95 % typical
Velocity: 0.1 knot (=about 0.2 m/s) RMS steady state

altitude:
is calculated from pressure data (sondes nr.4 to nr.33, excepting few measurements with malfunction of the hypsometer) or (sondes nr.41 to
nr.60) obtained by GPS receiver.

relative_intensity_of_ambient_light:
Relative intensity of the ambient light (in the visible) with respect to an empirically derived intensity maximum of full solar radiation.
It is measured by a light sensor mounted at the bottom side of the sonde and directed downwards. It is sensitive in the spectral range fr
om 460 to 1080 nm. The data can be used to detect the top of the clouds. Accuracy: no information available.
