The point source catalog v1.0 lists NOx emissions for 451 locations which have been automatically detected and quantified from local maxima in maps of the divergence of the NOx flux as determined from TROPOMI NO2 measurements 2018-2019 combined with ECMWF wind fields.
Note that the catalog is incomplete due to persisting gaps in the TROPOMI NO2 product at some coastlines, inaccurate or complex wind fields in coastal and mountainous regions, and high noise in the divergence maps for high background pollution like over China.
The catalog is sorted by the determined NOx emissions in descending order.
The dataset is organized as csv table containing the following information:
Column 1: Rank of NOx point source
Column 2: Latitude [°N] of point source
Column 3: Longitude [°E] of point source
Column 4: NOx emissions [kg/s]. Note that these emissions are biased low by a factor of up to 2 as discussed in detail in Beirle et al., 2020
Column 5: Integrated capacity [GW] of all coal/oil/gas power plants above 0.1 GW capacity within 5 km
listed in the Global Power Plant Database (GPPD),
Version: 1.2.0, Release Date: 2019-06-12, URI: http://datasets.wri.org/dataset/globalpowerplantdatabase No entry if no match to GPPD was found.
Column 6: Primary fuel of the largest coal/oil/gas power plant above 0.1 GW within 5 km.
No entry if no match to GPPD was found.
Column 7: List of names of all GPPD coal/oil/gas power plants above 0.1 GW within 5 km, separated by ";".
Spelling exactly as in GPPD.
No entry if no match to GPPD was found.
