The Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project (PMIP) investigates the physical mechanisms of climate change. The response of various climate models with different physical parameterizations to uniformly used boundary conditions, which are prescribed by PMIP, is compared.
As a participant of PMIP the ECHAM3-T42 simulations of different time slices were performed:
21000 years BP (Last Glacial Maximum, this Entry_ID),
6000 years BP (Climatic Optimum, Entry_ID=ECHAM3_T42_32003K006),
and 115000 years BP (Glacial Inception, Entry_ID=ECHAM3_T42_32001K115),
additionally a new Control Run with revised insolation (Entry_ID=ECHAM3_T42_32005K000).
For this time slice experiment (21000 BP) a global reconstruction of the surface conditions was supplied by the CLIMAP project members (CLIMAP Project Members, 1981; GSA Map and Chart Ser. MC-36, Geol. Soc. Am., Boulder, Colorado), which were used for surface boundary conditions.
A model description of ECHAM3 is addressed at https://doi.org/10.2312/WDCC/DKRZ_Report_No06 in the DKRZ Report No.6 The ECHAM3 Atmospheric General Circulation Model.
