Summary
[ Derived from parent entry - See data hierarchy tab ] Campaign: Archiving, Validation and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic data (AVISO)
Aviso has been distributing Topex/Poseidon and ERS altimetric data worldwide since 1992. Since launches of Jason-1 in December 2001 and of Envisat in March 2002, a new series of products has been completing the AVISO catalogue.
Ssalto/Duacs products are intercalibrated at crossover points; considering two datasets (for example coming from Jason-1 and Envisat), only Ssalto/Duacs products may be homogeneous at a given point. Ssalto/Duacs gridded products are devoted to scientific applications and non-commercial use. More info at: http://www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/data/products/sea-surface-height-products/global/index.html Source and methods: AVISO distributed SSALTO/DUACS Delayed Time MSLA Merged Products, Homogeneous Global Processing. These are monthly gridded sea surface heights computed with respect to a seven-year mean (averaged sea surface heights averaging month by month). Monthly means are created from weekly Sea Level Anomaly maps.
Homogeneous datasets based on two satellites (Jason2 / Envisat or Jason 1 / Envisat or Topex/Poseidon / ERS) with the same groundtrack. Sampling is stable in time.
The Ssalto multimission ground segment (Segment Sol multimissions d ALTimetrie, d Orbitographie et de localisation precise) encompasses ground support facilities for controlling the Doris and Poseidon instruments, for processing data from Doris and the Topex/Poseidon, Jason1 and Envisat1 altimeters, and for providing user services and expert altimetry support.
DUACS (Data Unification and Altimeter Combination System) processes data from all altimeter missions (Jason1, T/P, Envisat, GFO, ERS1 and 2 and even Geosat) to provide a consistent and homogeneous catalogue of products for varied applications, both for near real time applications and offline studies
